never mind a bit pricey, those sets are ridiculously expensive, i dont know about you guys but i have been finding allieds "specials" to be increasingly unrealistic in the value they put on items, i mean $750 for quilted sapele???? or $1000 for the "tree" mahogany?? you could probably buy a tree for that!! i used to buy lot of stuff from the allied pages, but i find my self just looking and having a little grin mostly these days!! paddy |

I find I have to delete that email everytime I get it for fear the credit card with want to jump out of my pocket. I have put myself in zoot anonymous until I build through the stack I have accumulated. |

Paddy: agreed, but it's a good thing, since it means I'm in no way actually tempted to buy any of it...which my cc thanks me for ![]() |

Will $3000 Rosewood really sound better than something less expensive? Remember the paper mache guitar from Torres? |

All I know is that wood will all easily sell at those prices. The "Tree" wood is highly unusual, and now that most of it is gone, it's that much more rare. I'm willing to bet Bob C. would love to get it all back and sell it for today's going rates....and it would all still sell. |

3k for Braz - thats how Traugott and the like sell 24000 dollar guitars - its got to be the best and wildest (would anyone pay 20k plus for a straight grain EIrw git ???) - there are people out there more than willing to pay that, but only if it has a name. Check out R Taylors upcharges - its 3K plus (on top of the 4300 base) for an all master grade curly koa body, yet the wood can be had for about 500 - thats good profit for really doing nothing that he woudlnt do on a EIrw/Sitka model. |

hi, just for the record, my post wasn't meant to be any kind of criticism of allied lutherie. i have bought lots of their products in the past and intend to buy more in the future. all i really meant to say was that i used to look at those pages and go, "hey thats a really good deal" and more recently i enjoy looking at the pictures of wood, but i am not really coaxed into getting out my credit card. just wanted to clear that up!! paddy |

Hey, I agree some of the prices seem a bit high, but I don't see anyone else selling some of these types of sets. If I was selling guitars instead of giving them away, I would be more inclined to buy this quality, and rarity of wood, as you would make it back with a commission. But Allied is great because they don't forget us budget minded folks, I just bought their EIR special at $20 a set. You can't beat that. Jeff |

I surely liked this set and I see that it is in fact gone now. Someone will definately enjoy it I hope. I might even have considered building a dread "NOT" ![]() ![]() ![]() While I couldn't afford any of this RW I bought a set a couple weeks ago and recently did take advantage of an Allied sale to buy 8 sets of Honduran mahogany for a batch of little stella style guitars. Now all I need is a sale on some nice addy tops to go with them. |

I think the Allied specials have become less about the "sale" part and more about them being able to feature individual sets where the buyer can see what he's getting, or at least see a representative picture. I still find good deals there, though. Especially when a set is only big enough for parlor size, which is mostly what I want to build anyway. I got a couple of nice ziricote parlor sets for about $90 each a couple months back, full size sets seem to usually go for $200+. |

I just received my bundle of "opportinity grade" EIR at $20 per set. I feel like a kid who just lifted a candy bar from the local 7-11 ![]() The stuff I got is definitely worth every penny. |

Well, most of the high dollar sets are sold, as are the lower priced sets. Good for the Allied and those who got them. Now, who here got what sets! ![]() ![]() Jeff |

John, Nice! Is that going to be one of your dandy parlors? What kind of binding/purfling/top will you use with that set? Jeff |
